Golf clothing: a complete guide for women and men
Golf clothing has to handle five hours of movement, changing weather, and a clubhouse collar rule. This guide covers every garment in the wardrobe, what the fabric actually changes, and how few pieces you really need.

The base: seven pieces is enough
A working golf wardrobe is smaller than most people think: two polos, a technical tee, one pair of golf trousers, shorts or a skirt, a mid layer, and a cap. That carries you from April to October.
Everything else is seasonal reinforcement: a cashmere knit and a cashmere neckwarmer when it turns cold, extra socks when it turns wet.
Fabric matters more than cut
Cotton absorbs sweat, gets heavy, and turns cold in wind. Performance fabric moves moisture outward and dries during the round, you notice the difference on the 14th.
Cashmere belongs in the mid layer: it insulates without bulk, so you keep it on through the swing instead of stuffing it in the bag.
Women's and men's golf clothing, what differs?
The function is identical; the fit and the garment mix differ. Women's sets are usually built on a skirt or shorts plus a top, men's on trousers plus a polo.
Caps, socks, cashmere neckwarmers, and mid layers work for both and are the pieces most often repurchased.
The dress code on course
Most Scandinavian clubs require a collar or a golf-specific tee, with the shirt tucked in. Jeans and tank tops are rarely allowed.
Choose polos in performance fabric and you are always dressed correctly, on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards.
Building from there
Buy a set that works together in color, and every piece gets worn more often. A neutral base plus one color is enough.
Prioritize what you wear every round: the polo, the trousers, and the socks. That is where quality shows.
